Advantages of Purchasing Used Cars from Dealers
Many of us find the vehicles we want to look at either online or by driving through a dealership. But most of us don’t think about the advantages of purchasing the used vehicles through dealerships. While a private seller is a lot less formal than a dealership, here are some areas that the dealerships have an edge.
- Convenience
- Financing
- Paperwork
- Mechanical
- Reputation
- Extras
Lets take a look at the above named advantages one by one.
Convenience – We can look at the dealership websites, place like Cars.com, Auto Trader, All Used Auto and many other sites. This offers a great opportunity to look at the used vehicles before you go the dealerships. The photos or videos show you the used vehicles inside and out. Helping you narrow down your search. Dealerships offer a large variety of gently used vehicles all the way to high mileage specials. Dealerships allow you to test drive any number of used vehicles so you are able to compare them equally.
Financing – Dealerships can offer you a wide selection of financing options from bad credit to no credit. Most dealerships have many banks and lending institutions that can be utilized by every customer no matter what their credit or financial situation is. Also when the credit check is done through a dealership it can be done in one pull instead of multiple pulls, which can hurt your credit score.
Paperwork – The dealership will handle all the necessary paperwork; taxes, title transfer, licensing fees, bill of sale and sometimes even the insurance paperwork. They write up the bill of sale and breakdown the expenses so you can see where your money is going, they include all local state taxes for you. They handle getting your title and registration changed over and sent to you or your county recorder and lending company. They will make sure that you have a temporary plate that will show the date of sale to display in the rear window. Many will put it in place for you. Some dealerships will also send the vehicle information to your insurance company if you need them to.
Mechanical –Most dealerships will inspect all the used vehicles for any mechanical issue and let you know up front if there are any problems with the car. Some will even detail the vehicle after the sale.
Reputation – Dealerships are constantly trying to build their reputation for customer care and service. If there is a problem with the vehicle most dealership are happy to look into the cause of the problem and try to resolve it for you.
Extras – While most of us do not care about the third party extended warranties dealerships have teamed up with vendors to be able to offer warranties that the manufacturer can no longer cover. They also off GAP insurance to help you in case of a loss of the vehicle and your insurance company won’t cover the entire amount left on the loan.
